Tulsa Man Pleads Guilty to Firearm Charge for Threatening VA Clinic Staff

A 32-year-old man from Tulsa, Zachariah Kade McGuire, has pleaded guilty in federal court to a firearm charge related to a threat he made to staff members at a Veterans Affairs clinic in Tulsa. McGuire admitted to calling the clinic and threatening to kill staff if he was not quickly prescribed medication. Within an hour of making the call, he entered the clinic with a loaded gun.

U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson commended the quick action of the staff and officers at the clinic for averting a tragedy. McGuire was arrested on site, and a loaded revolver and zip ties were found in his possession.

Earlier in the day, McGuire had an appointment scheduled by his mother for December 13th. However, he called back and left a threatening voicemail, stating that he would murder staff members if his medication was not prescribed within 30 minutes. The voicemail was reported to the Veterans Affairs police.

When officers found McGuire in the clinic, he admitted to having a gun on him when asked. Following his arrest, McGuire’s mother informed investigators that she was unaware of his intentions and had driven him to the clinic assuming he was planning to hold his doctor hostage.

McGuire had a previous arrest in 2019 for shooting with intent to kill a teenager who ran through his backyard while fleeing from the police. He was not charged in that case due to Oklahoma’s “stand your ground” law.

McGuire pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in a federal facility and could face up to five years in federal prison. The sentencing date has not yet been set.
