The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) in Malaysia has clarified that the usage of satellite internet services, such as Starlink, is not driven by commercial decisions but is a temporary measure for areas with poor internet access. The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil, revealed that long-term solutions are being implemented to address the underlying issue.

According to Bernama, Fahmi highlighted that Starlink is an ideal temporary solution due to its plug-and-play nature and fast internet speeds at a reasonable price. He also mentioned that there are three other satellite internet service providers available, emphasizing that the usage of these services is not based on commercial considerations.

The main focus, Fahmi emphasized, is on the benefits that this technology can bring to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). As part of the government’s plans, satellite internet technology will be expanded to schools and health clinics in Sabah and Sarawak, two states in Malaysia.
