Students from Oliver Citywide Academy to be Relocated to Four Satellite Locations

Students at Oliver Citywide Academy in Pittsburgh will be relocated to four satellite locations within Pittsburgh Public Schools. Oliver, which served as a full-time special education center for grades 3-12, has experienced several violent incidents, including two fatal shootings.

The first fatal shooting occurred in January 2022 when two suspects approached a school van during dismissal and opened fire, shooting a 15-year-old student twice. In May of the same year, a 15-year-old student shot and killed another 15-year-old student near the front steps of the academy.

To ensure the safety of the students, they will now attend satellite locations in the Greenway building, the Perry facility, the Milliones building, and the King facility. These locations will have separate classrooms for the Oliver students, keeping them removed from other students. Additionally, they will continue to receive support staff and assistants in their new locations.

The relocation aims to provide a safer learning environment for the students, away from the incidents that occurred at Oliver Citywide Academy. This decision reflects the school’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being and educational experience of its students.

By moving to these satellite locations, students from Oliver Citywide Academy will have the opportunity to continue their education within the Pittsburgh Public Schools system while being in a more secure setting.
