Reliance Jio Launches JioSpaceFiber to Provide Broadband Connectivity Across India

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, the world’s largest private mobile data network, has introduced JioSpaceFiber, a satellite-based broadband service aimed at connecting underserved regions in India. The service was showcased at the India Mobile Congress, where Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the event.
JioSpaceFiber plans to provide affordable high-speed broadband connectivity to consumers from all walks of life, contributing to the nation’s digital inclusivity efforts. It will be launched nationwide and will join Reliance Jio’s current broadband services, JioFiber and JioAirFiber, to ensure reliable, low-latency, high-speed internet access for consumers and businesses across India, regardless of their geographical location.
Furthermore, the satellite-based network will enhance the mobile backhaul capacity, expanding the reach and scale of Jio’s True5G network to even the remotest parts of the country. This project is made possible through a partnership with SES, which offers cutting-edge medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology. By combining SES’s O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio becomes the sole provider of gigabit, fiber-like services from space in India.
JioSpaceFiber has already connected four remote locations in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Assam, highlighting its capabilities and widespread coverage. This launch marks a significant development in India’s digital landscape, providing high-speed broadband connectivity to regions that were previously underserved.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, expressed his excitement about the project and its potential to connect millions of homes and businesses. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for his vision in transforming India into a developed nation.
John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES, emphasized the collaboration’s importance in supporting the Government of India’s Digital India initiative. He mentioned that fiber-like services from space were already deployed in parts of India and expected the project to drive digital transformation in rural areas.
Overall, the introduction of JioSpaceFiber represents a significant step towards providing affordable, high-speed broadband connectivity across India, bridging the digital divide and enabling more people to participate in the digital society.
