OneWeb Demonstrates Satellite Capabilities at Red Cross Headquarters

OneWeb recently showcased its satellite capabilities at the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, Switzerland. The successful demonstration highlighted the streaming of 4K video feeds, as well as the running of Microsoft Teams and GoogleEarth applications at high download and upload speeds, with low latency levels.

The event was attended by local organizations and virtually by several United Nations’ humanitarian organizations, providing a platform for IT and telecoms managers from various non-governmental organizations to explore new technology solutions and engage in discussions with key providers.

During the demonstration, OneWeb exhibited its network’s ability to deliver fast and low-latency communications through two different user terminals. The first terminal showcased was the recently launched Kymeta Hawk u8, designed for fixed applications and mountable on vehicles and vessels. The second terminal featured was the new human-portable flat panel INSTER, which can be easily carried in a backpack for increased portability and will be available later this year.

Charlie Clark, the director of Government at OneWeb, expressed the suitability of their offering for organizations like the Red Cross. The network’s ability to operate multiple service plans on one device allows for adaptability and efficiency across various teams, whether it be for critical communications or everyday internet usage.

This demonstration at the Red Cross headquarters highlights how OneWeb’s satellite capabilities can have a real impact in the humanitarian community, providing reliable and high-speed connectivity for organizations working in challenging environments.
