New Electronics Equipment Production Announced in Kenosha, WI

Vice President Kamala Harris and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo visited Kenosha, WI, to celebrate the announcement of new electronics equipment production in the U.S. The production is made possible by the Biden-Harris Administration’s “Investing in America” agenda, which requires the use of Made-in-America materials and products for federally funded infrastructure projects.

Nokia will partner with Sanmina Corporation at their Kenosha facility to manufacture key electronics equipment used in high-speed internet networks. This partnership will bring hundreds of new jobs to the U.S.

The announcement is a result of President Biden’s promise to strengthen the economy by investing in working people, expanding domestic manufacturing, empowering small business owners, and rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure. The investments in broadband infrastructure aim to create jobs in Wisconsin and across the nation and increase access to reliable, high-speed internet for all Americans.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s .45 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, administered by the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), will provide federal funding to states. Today’s announcement will result in the onshoring of network electronics equipment as states prepare to receive this funding.

Nokia plans to move the manufacturing of multiple fiber broadband electronics products to the United States. This includes Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), OLT line cards, and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), with production expected to scale with demand by mid-2024.

The Biden-Harris Administration’s high-speed internet programs aim to expand affordable and reliable internet access across the U.S. The NTIA has launched new grant programs funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to build high-speed internet infrastructure, create low-cost internet service options, and address digital equity and inclusion needs in communities.

The Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) also provides discounts for eligible households to access internet services. For more information on these programs, visit InternetforAll.gov.

President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and his vision for growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up have already resulted in significant investments and funding for infrastructure projects and savings for households on their internet costs.

The NTIA focuses on expanding broadband internet access and adoption, spectrum use, public safety communications, and ensuring that the internet remains a driver of innovation and economic growth.
