Ministry Plans Second Phase of Starlink Satellite Device Installations in Sabah

The Communications and Digital Ministry has announced its plans to commence the second phase of Starlink satellite device installations in Sabah. Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the installation process will begin in January of next year at nine different locations, with one of them being Inanam.

This initiative comes under the supervision of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), as the government aims to improve communication and digital connectivity in Sabah. Starlink, a satellite-based internet service developed by SpaceX, will play a crucial role in achieving this objective.

The installations in Sabah are part of a larger nationwide effort to bridge the digital divide and provide reliable internet access to underserved communities. By utilizing satellite technology, Starlink can overcome geographical limitations and provide high-speed internet coverage to areas where traditional infrastructure is difficult to deploy.

Inanam, a town in Sabah, is expected to benefit from this initiative, along with eight other locations across the region. By expanding access to affordable and reliable internet connectivity, the government aims to promote digital inclusion and enable the communities in these areas to fully participate in the digital economy.

The second phase of installations marks another step forward in realizing Malaysia’s digital ambitions. As technology advances and communication becomes increasingly vital, initiatives like the Starlink project will play a crucial role in supporting economic growth and facilitating digital transformation.

With the efforts undertaken by the Communications and Digital Ministry, backed by the MCMC, the government is actively working towards creating a more connected and digitally empowered Malaysia. By expanding internet access through services like Starlink, more Malaysians will have the opportunity to leverage the benefits of a digitally connected world.
