Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel Faces Investigation Over Improper Time Off Payments

Several search warrants executed at the Jeffersonville home owned by former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel on Wednesday were related to allegations of “troubling” and “improper” time off payments, according to current Clark County Sheriff Scottie Maples. Maples made a written statement on Thursday, revealing that a review by his office had uncovered potential criminal activity, including financial and payroll irregularities involving Noel. The evidence was sent to the Indiana State Police (ISP) for an independent investigation, and cooperation between the sheriff’s office and ISP was maintained throughout the process.

Following the execution of the search warrants, it was determined that Jamey Noel, after his resignation as sheriff, had been wrongly receiving paid personal time off. Sheriff Maples confirmed that Noel will not be paid any additional leave, and efforts will be made to recover any funds that were improperly paid to him. The search at Noel’s Jeffersonville home was marked by the presence of crime scene tape and ISP vehicles.

Noel had purchased the home with his wife in October the previous year. Although several attempts were made to contact him for comment, he has not responded so far. The warrants executed by ISP were related to allegations of public corruption, tax evasion, fraud, ghost employment, and official misconduct.

As further details emerge, this story will be updated to provide additional information.
