Activate Android’s Auto-Share Video Feature for Emergency Situations

Android phone users now have the ability to activate a feature that automatically shares videos with emergency contacts when in danger. This feature is tied to Android’s Emergency SOS feature and could potentially save lives.

To activate Emergency SOS, you need to go into your Android phone settings and turn it on. To activate it, you have to press the power button five times and then touch and hold inside the red circle for three seconds. This will trigger a range of emergency responses, including making an emergency call and executing any pre-selected actions. One of those actions is Emergency Recording, which you should set up.

The Emergency Recording feature works discreetly in the background, allowing you to continue sharing your location or seeking help while it is active. You can find this feature in the Settings menu under Safety & Emergency and then Emergency SOS. Make sure to turn on Emergency SOS first and then set up your emergency contacts before enabling auto-share.

If you turn on auto-share, a link to the recorded video will be automatically shared with all of your emergency contacts. However, if you haven’t set up emergency contacts, your video won’t be shared with anyone. You have a 15-second window after recording to cancel sharing if you change your mind. Sharing the video depends on having an internet connection, so there might be some delay in your contacts receiving it. The links your contacts receive will have a seven-day expiration time, but you can deactivate them for other users at any time.

Google automatically disables active shared links if they are being excessively shared. Additionally, your Emergency Recordings are automatically uploaded to the cloud to prevent them from being lost if your phone is destroyed or stolen. Keep in mind that this feature will use up data if you are not connected to Wi-Fi. This auto-share video feature is designed to be used for personal safety in emergency situations.
