TPG Telecom Deploys SRv6 Technology for Improved Network Management

Australian telecommunications company TPG Telecom has implemented Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) technology to enhance network management and direct traffic across its 5G and fixed-line networks. This solution simplifies network operations by providing traffic instructions in advance and reducing the need for data to pass through multiple routers.

By adopting SRv6, TPG Telecom aims to deliver a better experience to its customers while also driving cost savings and operational efficiency. The company partnered with Cisco for the deployment of SRv6, allowing it to offer a scalable network experience that meets the growing data needs of retail and business customers.

The implementation of SRv6 also boosts network reliability for TPG Telecom by enabling fast rerouting of traffic. In the event of a link or router failure, traffic can be redirected along an alternate path, ensuring uninterrupted service availability and minimizing disruptions for customers.

Giovanni Chiarelli, TPG Telecom’s group chief technology officer, expressed excitement about the launch of Australia’s first SRv6-based transport network in collaboration with Cisco. He highlighted that SRv6 simplifies network management, improves performance, enhances scalability, and increases network reliability and performance for customers. Chiarelli emphasized that the implementation of SRv6 allows TPG Telecom to deliver faster, demand-driven, high-quality, low-latency connectivity services for 5G, cloud computing, IoT, and more.

TPG Telecom’s fully automated SRv6 infrastructure plays a vital role in its network automation and digital transformation strategy. This infrastructure will facilitate the transition of the telco’s existing network to a next-generation software-defined network.

Karen Negus, managing director of service provider at Cisco, expressed pride in partnering with TPG Telecom to deploy SRv6. She noted that by evolving their network to SRv6, TPG Telecom is leading the way in the next phase of IP networking, prioritizing simplification, automation, and meeting customer needs.

The deployment of SRv6 technology signifies TPG Telecom’s commitment to creating a better network and digital experience for its customers.
