North Korea Experiences Second Failure in Satellite Launch

North Korea’s recent failure to launch a spy satellite has been seen as a setback for Kim Jong-un, the country’s leader. The launch took place from the Tongchang-ri area on the west coast of North Korea. However, the state media announced that the launch had ended in failure due to an error in the emergency blasting system. Despite this failure, experts believe that North Korea has resolved previous engine problems and will attempt another launch in October.

The launch of the spy satellite, named Malligyong-1, came three months after a previous unsuccessful attempt in May. The country’s space development agency has stated that the cause of the failure is not significant and that they will continue with the third launch in October. The agency claims that there are no problems with the rocket or stage separation.

Some experts suggest that the haste in launching the satellite may be due to the upcoming anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea on October 10th. They also speculate that the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, wanted to commemorate his late father’s military first policy on August 25th. However, it will be difficult for Pyongyang to proceed with a launch beyond October due to unfavorable weather conditions.

North Korea’s announcement of the failed launch is seen as an attempt to show that the country is “normally” developing space programs. The international community, including South Korea and the US, has condemned North Korea for violating UN Security Council resolutions. They believe that North Korea is using ballistic missile technology, which is banned under these resolutions. Analysts also express skepticism about the North’s satellite capabilities, despite claims of progress in their space development program.

A military spy satellite would greatly enhance North Korea’s surveillance capability and enable precision strikes in war situations. However, doubts remain about the country’s ability to develop and successfully launch such advanced technology.
