New Satellite Images Reveal Destruction in Gaza Strip

New satellite images have provided a visual representation of the widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip following weeks of airstrikes. The pictures depict the aftermath of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacks in Beit Hanoun and Atatra, targeting residential buildings, markets, and mosques. These retaliatory strikes were carried out in response to the attack launched by Hamas militants on October 7.

Comparisons between images taken earlier this year and those captured in recent days illustrate the extent of the devastation. Omer Tishler, the Israel Air Force’s chief of staff, stated that his forces have been carrying out airstrikes “around the clock” on Hamas militants “with no difference between day and night.” The strikes have targeted various Gaza neighborhoods where Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists were known to be hiding. Tishler acknowledged that the air force has been hunting for terrorists both inside and outside civilian residences.

Satellite images reveal that Beit Hanoun, located in the northeast corner of the enclave, has been severely impacted by the airstrikes, with its hospital forced to halt operations due to the intense bombardment. The al-Karama neighborhood has also been heavily targeted, resulting in its hospital being out of service as well. Amidst this destruction, more than half of Gaza’s primary health care facilities and approximately a third of its hospitals have ceased functioning, creating a desperate shortage of fuel as Israel has sealed off the territory.

According to the World Health Organization, Israeli retaliatory strikes have caused the deaths of over 6,500 Palestinians in Gaza. Israeli officials report that more than 1,400 people in Israel, mostly civilians, have been killed, primarily as a result of the initial Hamas attack.

These satellite images provide a glimpse into the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, with severe consequences for the healthcare system and civilian infrastructure.
