Momentus, a leading provider of in-space transportation, has unveiled its latest innovation, the M-1000 satellite bus. This new platform is based on the company’s Vigoride orbital transfer vehicle and offers a range of functionalities that cater to the diverse needs of both government and commercial entities.

The M-1000 addresses a challenge with hosted payloads on the Vigoride, where payloads remained tethered rather than deployed. In response to this issue, Momentus developed the M-1000 as a satellite bus iteration of the Vigoride, incorporating critical subsystems while eliminating the water-based propulsion system used for orbital maneuvers.

With a payload range of 350 to 800 kilograms, the M-1000 provides 1 kilowatt orbit average power and a peak of 3 kilowatts. It offers a modular approach, allowing customers to customize its functionality by incorporating enhancements such as improved pointing and third-party propulsion systems.

This adaptability enables Momentus to deliver bespoke spacecraft configurations within a year, demonstrating their commitment to customer satisfaction. The company anticipates interest in the M-1000 from both government and commercial sectors. Government clients may leverage the modularity features for specialized services, while commercial customers are drawn to its quick production schedule and competitive pricing.

Manufactured at the same facility as the Vigoride, the M-1000 is set to be produced at a capacity of up to 50 buses annually. However, Momentus is exploring the possibility of establishing a dedicated manufacturing facility to accommodate increased demand.

While Momentus continues to develop the M-1000, their Vigoride tugs, including the upcoming Vigoride-7, remain an integral part of their portfolio. The Vigoride-7 is scheduled to launch in 2024 aboard the SpaceX Transporter-10 mission.
