Creating a Fun “World Jump” Video Using Runway AI and Adobe Premiere Pro

Runway AI has become a popular AI tool for video and animation creators. One of their most intriguing features is the ability to create AI videos that are completely different from the original input video. One technique that has gained popularity is the “world jump” simulation, where the main subject appears to jump into another dimension and transform into a different character, while still maintaining the motions from the original video.

To create a “world jump” video, you can use any non-linear editing (NLE) software, but it is crucial to align the clips precisely for a smooth transition between scenes. Sound design is also important in selling the effect.

Martin Haerlin is one creator who made this concept popular. He created several videos showcasing the “world jump” effect, which garnered attention on the internet. In one video, he featured more developed characters and action at each stage, while in another, he used a mirrored effect with multiple characters voiced in. He also entered a short film competition with a mock insurance ad incorporating the “world jump” effect.

The process of creating a “world jump” video involves recording a spin/walking/static selfie video or shooting the subject up close. Actions that define the scene “jumps” should be incorporated, such as finger snaps or specific motions. The footage is then sliced up in Adobe Premiere Pro, and each segment is exported as a separate video clip.

The next step is to log into a Runway AI account and select the Gen 1 Video to Video tool. The first clip sequence rendered in Premiere is uploaded to Runway AI. Reference images can be added to the library or default styles can be chosen for each sequence. Various settings in the Advanced Tab should be adjusted to achieve the desired effect.

Once a preview look is satisfactory, the Generate Video option is selected to render that segment. This process is repeated for all the clip segments, and the rendered results are downloaded. In Adobe Premiere, all the clips are assembled on the timeline and aligned end to end.

To enhance the “world jump” effect, additional elements can be added in Premiere. For example, a cosmic “blast” effect can be created using sound effects from the Adobe Stock library, and a flash effect can be added for each transition using Boris FX BBC Lens Flash. Ambient sounds can also be used to create different environments for each segment, further immersing the viewers in the alternate dimensions.

Creating a “world jump” video is an exciting and creative exploration with generative AI tools, and the possibilities are endless with Runway AI and Adobe Premiere Pro.
