Samsung Confirms Satellite Connectivity in Galaxy S24 Phones for Emergency Services

Samsung has announced that their upcoming flagship phones, the Galaxy S24 series, will include satellite connectivity for emergency services. The CEO of Samsung’s System LSI division, Park Yong, confirmed this important feature, which is expected to be available early next year.

The new functionality, called “Emergency SOS via Satellite,” will allow Samsung smartphone users to connect with each other and request aid in emergency situations, even in remote or isolated areas. This feature bears a resemblance to a similar feature introduced by Apple in their iPhone 14 series, which was later enhanced in the iPhone 15.

The Emergency SOS via Satellite function acts as a lifeline for users during emergencies. It guides them through a series of questions about their situation, instantly transferring this crucial information, along with the user’s current location, to the appropriate authorities. It represents a significant step towards more comprehensive and reliable emergency response solutions for smartphone users.

While it is still unclear if this functionality will be available on all models of the Galaxy S24 series or exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it is a noteworthy development towards improving emergency services.

In addition to the satellite connectivity announcement, Samsung is expected to globally launch the Galaxy S24 series in mid-January. The new series is anticipated to come with various enhancements compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung also showcased the ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace technology at a recent press conference, featuring a 200 MP sensor that can track and film movements while keeping the subject centered in the frame. It is likely that this feature will be introduced in the Galaxy S24 series as well.
