Proof-of-Concept Trial Demonstrates 5G’s Potential for Industrial Robotics

Telit Cinterion, a global provider of intelligent edge solutions, has successfully completed a proof-of-concept trial of private 5G for factory automation. The trial, conducted in partnership with Nestlé Brazil, highlights the growing importance of 5G in the manufacturing industry’s Industry 4.0 transformation strategies. Manufacturers worldwide are adopting or considering the implementation of 5G, including private 5G networks, which is estimated to be valued at 9 billion by 2030.

Nestlé Brazil conducted the trial at Parque Tecnologico São José dos Campos, a research park sponsored by the government, where they explore next-generation technologies and business processes. The focus of the trial was on using 5G to connect autonomous manufacturing robots and automated guided vehicles at Nestlé’s plants, such as the one in Caçapava, Brazil.

The trial utilized the Telit Cinterion 5G FT980-WW evaluation kit, which features the FN980 module. This module supports all major 5G frequency bands based on the 3GPP Rel. 15 standard, allowing private networks to have maximum deployment flexibility. The trial specifically focused on the use of sub-6 GHz spectrum.

Nestlé Brazil expressed their satisfaction with the partnership with Telit Cinterion and emphasized the importance of this joint work for the national industry. The successful trial conducted by Nestlé Brazil is part of a series of 5G factory automation trials that Telit Cinterion has been involved in across Latin America. This showcases how manufacturers in the region consider 5G as a crucial element for the success of their Industry 4.0 migration.
