Kinetic Unveils Public-Private Partnership to Bring High-Speed Fiber Internet to Chattooga County

In a major development for Chattooga County, Kinetic has announced a public-private partnership that will revolutionize digital connectivity in the region. This initiative, valued at .3 million, aims to provide high-speed fiber internet to approximately 3,400 homes, businesses, and schools, bridging the digital divide for eligible residents.

The project will involve extending fiber internet coverage to various areas within Chattooga County, including Summerville, Trion, Lyerly, and Menlo. With funding from multiple sources, including a state grant of approximately .1 million from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds program, Kinetic will invest a substantial .2 million into the project.

Through this partnership, Kinetic plans to lay 320 miles of optical fiber cable, delivering high-speed internet to homes, businesses, and educational institutions. The comprehensive project is expected to be completed by the following year.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene praised the joint efforts of Kinetic and Chattooga County, recognizing the transformative impact this partnership will have on the community. She emphasized the importance of high-speed internet access in today’s digital age and commended both entities for their commitment to improving broadband availability.

Kinetic’s fiber-optic broadband technology offers symmetrical connections, allowing users to download and upload data at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. This next-generation access far surpasses the average download and upload speeds in Georgia, which currently stand at approximately 178 megabits per second and 24 megabits per second, respectively.

Michael Foor, President of Kinetic’s Georgia operations, expressed excitement about the project, stating that the company is thrilled to bring ultrafast and reliable fiber connectivity to Chattooga County. This investment in Chattooga County is part of Kinetic’s broader billion multiyear capital investment strategy to expand gigabit fiber service across their 18-state network, demonstrating the company’s commitment to digital transformation and bridging the digital divide.
