T-Mobile has expanded its 5G coverage to hundreds of thousands of residents in Pennsylvania, covering almost 99% of the state. This expansion is a result of the company’s efforts to improve its network and enhance data speeds, particularly for residents in suburban and rural areas.
To achieve this, T-Mobile has built 700 new 5G towers and upgraded services across 37,000 square miles of Pennsylvania since 2021. The company’s focus on network expansion and enhancement has propelled it to the second position in the market, behind Verizon. T-Mobile achieved this by rapidly upgrading its network with 5G capabilities and acquiring Sprint.
The deployment of 5G reach is prioritizing rural areas, which often lack reliable coverage. T-Mobile has invested 4 million in county-based 2.5 GHz spectrum licenses, primarily in rural areas. Currently, over one-third of the 40 million U.S. households under T-Mobile’s 5G network are located in rural regions.
Edwige A. Robinson, Senior Vice President of Field Engineering at T-Mobile, expressed that the company’s collaboration with local and state agencies and entities has led to significant improvements in wireless infrastructure for Pennsylvanians.
Independent speed tests conducted by Ookla and Opensignal have ranked T-Mobile as the network with the highest download speeds in the state. Ookla recorded a median download speed of 164.76 Mbps for T-Mobile, while Opensignal recognized it as the provider with the fastest overall download and upload rates among all U.S. providers.
T-Mobile’s expanded 5G coverage in Pennsylvania includes counties like Adams, Armstrong, Beaver, Berks, Bradford, Bucks, Chester, Clarion, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Juniata, Lawrence, Lehigh, Luzerne, McKean, Mifflin, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Pike, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Venango, Wyoming, and York.
Furthermore, in the coming years, T-Mobile plans to open more retail locations in smaller communities and rural towns across Pennsylvania to enhance its customer experience. The company aims to add to its 240 existing stores throughout 2023 and 2024.
