SpaceX Plans Back-to-Back Starlink Launches

SpaceX is set to launch two Falcon 9 Starlink missions tonight, marking the 99th and 100th dedicated Starlink mission for the company. The first launch is scheduled from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 8:14 p.m. ET, followed by a launch from Vandenberg Space Force Station in California at 12:01 a.m. PT.

For the Florida mission, the satellites will be launched on a trajectory and inserted into a 43-degree orbital inclination. Weather conditions may affect the timing of the launches.

If necessary, SpaceX has several backup opportunities to launch between the evening of August 17 and early morning hours of August 17. The weather outlook shows a 20% chance of acceptable weather, improving to a 65% chance by the end of the launch window.

The Falcon 9 booster for the Florida launch, known as B1067, will make its 13th flight. This booster has previously carried out missions to the International Space Station (ISS), resupply missions, commercial payloads, and Starlink missions. After launch, B1067 will attempt a landing on the droneship “A Shortfall of Gravitas.”

The California launch will involve the deployment of 21 Starlink satellites, the largest number yet for the V2 mini variant from the West Coast. Unlike previous missions, this launch will head to a 53-degree orbital inclination rather than 43 degrees.

Similar to the Florida launch, SpaceX has multiple opportunities to launch the California mission. If needed, there are two launch opportunities approximately 24 hours later.

The booster assigned to the California mission, B1061, will make its 15th flight. This booster has previously launched ISS missions, commercial payloads, and Starlink missions. After launch, B1061 is scheduled to land on the droneship “Of Course I Still Love You.”

These back-to-back Starlink launches demonstrate SpaceX’s commitment to expanding its satellite constellation to provide global internet coverage.
