Satellite Images Show Extensive Damage in Gaza Strip Ahead of Israeli Ground Invasion

Newly released satellite images from Maxar reveal the significant damage caused by thousands of Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. The images, taken between October 10 and October 21, depict three neighborhoods in northern Gaza – Atatra, Beit Hanoun, and Al Karameh – that have been extensively damaged.

The before and after images show residential buildings, businesses, and mosques reduced to rubble. According to the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA, 45% of all housing units in the strip have been damaged or destroyed, displacing over 600,000 people who are now seeking shelter within Gaza.

Mohammad Ziyara, head of the Hamas-led ministry of public works and housing, stated that entire families have been erased from the civil registry, along with neighborhoods, residential communities, and various facilities such as hospitals, places of worship, bakeries, and schools. The destruction has left the people of Gaza in shock and disbelief.

The Hamas-led health ministry reported that more than 7,000 people have lost their lives during the war. Israel insists that it does not intentionally target civilians and claims that Hamas deliberately uses civilian infrastructure and the local population for cover.

Recent airstrikes in Gaza have intensified, coupled with limited ground incursions, indicating Israel’s preparation for a possible full-scale ground invasion. The objective of such an invasion would be to root out Hamas, the governing authority in the region.

The situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire, with extensive damage to infrastructure and a high number of casualties. The international community continues to monitor and call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
