STMicroelectronics, a global leader in semiconductor technology, has announced that its ST87M01 NB-IoT and GNSS modules have achieved certification from Vodafone, a leading cellular network operator. The ST87M01 module combines cellular IoT connectivity and geolocation in a miniaturized, low-power, integrated module designed for a wide range of IoT and smart-industrial applications.

With Vodafone certification, customers can expect a reliable and future-proof data connection for their IoT solutions that utilize the ST87M01 module’s power-efficient features. The module has demonstrated flawless connectivity with Vodafone’s NB-IoT global infrastructure and offers excellent connectivity options across Europe.

The ST87M01 module has also received certification from the Global Certification Forum (GCF), which promotes interoperability of mobile and IoT products. This certification ensures that the module complies with 3GPP Release 15 and provides extended multi-regional LTE coverage.

One of the key applications for the ST87M01 module is in smart traffic-emergency lights, which are set to become mandatory in Spain by 2026. These lights replace passive emergency triangles and provide real-time car geolocation to the local traffic-control system in the event of an accident, improving road safety. The module is the most integrated solution on the market and includes all the necessary functions to support this application.

The ST87M01 module is also ideal for deployment in electric, water, and gas smart-metering roll-outs planned worldwide. It offers an effective solution for the new Indian smart metering infrastructure, which is expected to reach 250 million units in the next five years. The module integrates a state-of-the-art embedded SIM (eSIM) and a certified embedded secure element (eSE) in an ultra-small package.

With its low energy consumption features, the ST87M01 maximizes battery life for IoT applications. Additionally, the integrated native GNSS receiver ensures optimized power savings while operating during NB-IoT sleep time slots. The module can easily integrate with other components from ST’s portfolio, such as intelligent actuators and sensors, interfaces, and other connectivity options, to enable precise geolocation for various IoT applications.
