Possible Russian Spy Ring in Britain: Investigation Centers on Bulgarian Individuals

When Bizer Dzhambazov decided to install a satellite dish on his house in west London, it caught the attention of his neighbors. Unlike the other dishes in the area, his seemed to be pointing in the wrong direction. Undeterred, Dzhambazov attempted to install an even larger dish on the exterior wall, but had to abandon the plan when it was pointed out that it would block sunlight to the neighboring house. Dzhambazov claimed to work for Interpol, which his former neighbor said he found credible at the time. Dzhambazov, together with his partner Katrin Ivanova, lived in a ground floor flat in Northolt, which is now under investigation for possible involvement in a Russian spy ring operating in Britain.

Dzhambazov, Ivanova, and tech entrepreneur Orlin Roussev were all arrested earlier this year on suspicion of offenses under the Official Secrets Act and the Identity Documents Act. They are suspected of working for Moscow and are accused of possessing fake passports, identity cards, and other documents for nine different countries. The trio has been living in the UK for approximately a decade and have moved between addresses in west London. The investigation has placed a spotlight on their residence in Northolt, which is located just a mile from RAF Northolt, a secure airport used by the Prime Minister, the Royal family, and other government ministers.

Dzhambazov is described by neighbors as a driver for local hospitals, while Ivanova lists her occupation as a medical laboratory assistant. In addition to running an organization that helps Bulgarian people settle in the UK, the couple has had various jobs, including office management, brand consultancy, and marketing. Roussev, who has a history of business dealings in Russia, moved to the UK in 2009 and worked in financial services before specializing in artificial intelligence and advanced communication systems. He also has experience in signals intelligence and previously advised the Bulgarian energy ministry.

The investigation has also led to a guest house in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where Roussev had recently moved. Locals recall the property being searched by masked men, and it is believed that the guest house had not been open for business for several months. The probe into this possible Russian spy ring continues, as authorities work to gather more information about the activities and connections of Dzhambazov, Ivanova, and Roussev.
