San Francisco-based company Planet Labs has successfully concluded its acquisition of Slovenia’s prominent geographic information system (GIS) company, Holding Sinergise. The value of the deal was not disclosed, but the two companies have been working in partnership since 2016.

The acquisition of Sinergise will enhance Planet’s Earth Data Platform, allowing customers to extract insights more easily from Earth Observation data. Sinergise’s acclaimed Sentinel Hub, an API-driven cloud streaming platform, will contribute significantly to Planet’s technological capabilities. With this platform, users can access a diverse array of Earth Observation data from multiple sources for processing, analysis, and extraction of valuable insights.

The integration of the Sinergise team into Planet’s European operations will fortify the company’s presence in Europe, with nearly a third of Planet’s worldwide workforce now based in the continent. To support this expansion, Planet will maintain two additional offices in Slovenia and Austria, in addition to its existing locations in Berlin and Haarlem.

This acquisition marks Planet’s sixth since 2015 and demonstrates their commitment to advancing the Earth Observation community and promoting innovation and progress within the European space sector.
