The Capital School District will be joining the Verizon Innovative Learning program on August 30, in collaboration with the new Dover Middle School Campus. The initiative aims to address the digital divide and promote educational equity.

As part of the program, the school district and Verizon will work together to provide free technology devices, internet access, and innovative STEM learning programs. This partnership will ensure that students stay connected and have the resources they need for learning, regardless of their location.

Verizon Innovative Learning Schools go beyond just providing access to technology. Each school also receives a dedicated technology coach and comprehensive professional development support for teachers. This allows educators to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms, resulting in more personalized instruction, new teaching methods, and increased student engagement.

For the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, the Middle School of Excellence, Middle School of Innovation, and Dover High School will be among the 31 schools joining Verizon Innovative Learning Schools. This expansion brings the program’s impact to a total of 592 schools nationwide. The Capital School District schools will receive 3,715 devices with data plans, with an estimated investment of over .3 million per school from Verizon Innovative Learning.

Dr. Vilicia Cade, CEO and Superintendent of the Capital School District, expressed gratitude for being selected as the first school district in Delaware to participate in this program. She hopes that their partnership with Verizon will serve as an example for neighboring districts, inspiring them to address digital inequities as well. Cade believes that incorporating technology in education is crucial for preparing the future workforce and improving communities.
