Apple’s Upcoming M3 Chips: What We Know So Far

The much-anticipated Apple event, known as “Scary Fast,” is scheduled to take place on October 30, where the tech giant is expected to unveil its next-generation Apple Silicon chip, potentially named the M3. This new chip is anticipated to bring improved performance and energy efficiency to Apple’s new Mac lineup, including the MacBook Pro and iMac.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who revealed details in his Power On newsletter, there will likely be three variants of the M3 chip: M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. The base M3 chip is said to feature 8 CPU cores, with 4 high-performance and 4 efficiency cores. It may also have up to 10 GPU cores, offering enhanced memory configurations and improved core performance.

The higher-end M3 Pro chip is reportedly being tested in different configurations. It could feature as many as 6 performance and 6 efficiency cores, totaling 12 CPU cores. The GPU cores are also expected to see an increase to 18, with the possibility of a top configuration featuring 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores.

The M3 Max chip, positioned as the top-end chip in the M3 lineup, is rumored to feature 16 cores in one of its configurations, with 12 high-performance and 4 efficiency cores. The GPU cores in the highest configuration could reach a staggering 40. Additionally, the base configuration of the M3 Max might include 32 GPU cores.

It is important to note that these details are based on unofficial reports and should be taken with caution until Apple provides official information at the Scary Fast event. Nonetheless, Apple enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the announcement, hoping for exciting advancements in performance and efficiency with the upcoming M3 chips.
