iQPS Teams Up with Rocket Lab for Electron Launch

Japanese Earth imaging company iQPS has chosen Rocket Lab for a dedicated Electron launch, following the discontinuation of Virgin Orbit. Originally contracted with Virgin Orbit for the launch, iQPS had to find an alternative when the company closed earlier this year. The mission is scheduled for September and will carry iQPS’s QPS-SAR-5 satellite, named “TSUKUYOMI-I.”

Rocket Lab, on August 17, announced the upcoming mission, which has been named “The Moon God Awakens” after Tsukuyomi, the Japanese God of the Moon. The QPS-SAR-5 satellite is a synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite and will join the QPS-SAR-6, which is already in orbit, to form a constellation.

iQPS CEO Dr. Shunsuke Onishi expressed gratitude towards Rocket Lab and their team for their efforts in arranging the new launch contract. The company is eager to swiftly deploy the satellites into orbit and establish a 36-QPS-SAR constellation. This constellation will enable near real-time observation in almost any location worldwide.

The partnership between iQPS and Rocket Lab signifies a new chapter for iQPS in satellite launches. With Rocket Lab’s expertise and reliable Electron launch vehicle, iQPS is positioned to continue its mission of providing high-quality Earth imaging and observation services.

This collaboration also highlights the growing demand for Earth observation satellites and the importance of reliable launch service providers in the industry. Rocket Lab’s track record of successful launches makes them a trusted choice for iQPS as they strive to expand their satellite constellation and offer enhanced Earth observation capabilities.

The launch of the QPS-SAR-5 satellite is a significant milestone for iQPS, marking their first mission with Rocket Lab. It represents a continuation of their commitment to advancing Earth imaging technology and offering valuable insights for various applications, including disaster management, agriculture, environmental monitoring, and urban planning.

As the launch date approaches, both iQPS and Rocket Lab are working diligently to ensure a successful mission. With this partnership, the future looks promising for iQPS as they continue to innovate and contribute to the Earth imaging industry.
