What is SpaceX’s Starlink Satellite Train?

Oklahomans witnessed a line of white dots moving across the night sky on Wednesday night. These dots are caused by SpaceX’s Starlink, a collection of satellites known as a satellite train. This phenomenon often leads to misconception and confusion, as they have been mistaken for UFO sightings in the past.

The Starlink satellite train is made up of numerous satellites that are released into space. Once in orbit around the Earth, each satellite will unfold its solar panels and lay flat to resist gravity’s pull. It will then point its panels directly up and its antennas directly down towards Earth to communicate data and provide internet service to customers. These satellites move together in unison, spinning around the globe at the same altitude and speed.

SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, developed the Starlink satellite system in 2015. Its purpose is to provide high-speed internet to remote areas by launching solar-powered satellites into orbit. The company plans to deploy a total of 12,000 satellites, with the potential to extend to 42,000 in the future. Currently, SpaceX has launched approximately 4,500 satellites, serving around 1.5 million customers in about 50 countries and territories.

If you’re interested in spotting Starlink satellites, keep in mind that they only become visible when they reflect sunlight and do not emit light on their own. There are mobile apps available that help users locate satellites, including Starlink. These apps provide real-time information and can be accessed from anywhere, even without an internet connection.

To see the global coverage of each Starlink satellite and find out how many are currently operating, you can use the Starlink map. This map shows the real-time location of all Starlink satellites. For more tracking information on Starlink satellites, visit the official Starlink website.

Remember, these satellite trains are not related to alien invasions but are part of SpaceX’s efforts to bring internet connectivity to remote areas of the world.
