US Space Force Partners with Capella Federal for Satellite Services

The US Space Systems Command (SSC) has awarded a contract for Proliferated Low Earth Orbit Satellite-Based Services (PLEO) to Capella Federal, a subsidiary of Capella Space. This contract aims to expand the availability of global imagery crucial for various missions, providing the US Space Force with round-the-clock, all-condition data.

The contract establishes Capella Federal as a pioneering commercial earth observation company, as it collaborates within an emerging governmental framework for satellite services. This innovative procurement model leverages cutting-edge commercial space technologies to enhance the capabilities and resilience of the US Space Force.

The contract spans five years, from July 2023 to July 2028, with the potential for a five-year extension to ensure long-term collaboration. Capella Space’s CEO, Payam Banazadeh, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that it allows the company to provide timely, high-resolution SAR data to support US Space Force missions.

The contract was granted by the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) through the Commercial Satellite Communications Office (CSCO), which operates under SSC. This collaboration between Capella Federal and SSC represents a transformative shift in the satellite and space sectors, showcasing the growing reliance on advanced commercial space technologies to meet national and global needs.
