Bonner has held various positions in government and communications throughout her career. In 2004, she served as the deputy press secretary for the Democratic Leadership Council/Progressive Policy Institute. In 2007, Bonner took on the same role in the House Committee on Small Business. She later became the director of communications and media relations at One Economy Corporation, where she served for three years.
