PTA and UNESCO Collaborate for Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and UNESCO have joined forces to develop a “Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy.” The primary objective of this strategy is to promote the use of internet, cell phones, and digital skills among women in Pakistan.

The initiative is in line with the guidelines set forth by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for 2030. By implementing this strategy, PTA aims to bridge the digital gender gap in the country and improve women’s access, connectivity, and affordability to digital services.

To gather relevant data, surveys were conducted by PTA in 2022. These surveys included input from national and international digital and gender experts, as well as unconnected populations. Additionally, workshops were held in major cities to gain insights and perspectives. Once stakeholders validate the strategy, it will be formally presented.

By collaborating with various stakeholders, PTA and UNESCO intend to address the existing challenges and barriers that prevent women from fully utilizing digital technologies. The strategy outlines specific tasks and actions that can be undertaken to empower women in the digital realm.

Efforts like these are crucial in promoting gender equality and inclusivity, especially in countries where women may face limitations in accessing and utilizing digital platforms. Through this collaboration, PTA and UNESCO are working towards establishing a more inclusive and empowering digital landscape for women in Pakistan.
