Google Addresses Storage Access Issues on Pixel Devices Running Android 14

Google has responded to the recent reports of storage access issues on some Pixel devices running Android 14. The problem mainly affects devices from the Pixel 6 and later models that have received the Android 14 update and have multiple users other than the primary user set up, including guests, restricted profiles, and child users. This issue can lead to the inability to access media storage or result in the device rebooting with a “Factory data reset” message.

As a resolution, Google has released a Google Play system update that prevents the issue from being triggered on additional devices. Users can install this update by going to Settings > Security & privacy > System & update > Google Play system update. This update is already available, with the latest version dated October 1, 2023.

For those facing difficulties accessing media storage, Google is working on a system update that will fix the issue and restore access without the need for a factory reset. Additionally, the company is exploring methods to potentially recover data from devices stuck in a boot loop with the “Pixel is starting” message.

However, Google has not provided specific details on how the data recovery process will work and has promised to share more information as soon as it becomes available.

Until the OTA (over-the-air) update is available, Google advises users who have factory reset their device to refrain from creating or logging into a secondary user account. This will help ensure a smoother transition when the update is rolled out.

In conclusion, Google acknowledges the inconvenience caused by this issue and expresses gratitude for users’ patience throughout the resolution process.
