Fresno City College has opened its new campus in West Fresno as the fall semester begins. The West Fresno Center held an open house over the weekend to showcase its facilities. Gurminder Sangha, the campus’ dean of educational services and pathway effectiveness, expressed his satisfaction with the opening and the support provided by the staff.

The campus aims to bring educational resources to underserved neighborhoods, with the potential to improve the West Fresno community. Its location near residents in West Fresno provides easy access to higher education.

The West Fresno Center offers courses in teaching, social justice, and public health, which are designed to educate future community leaders. Additionally, there is an elementary teacher education program available, allowing students from the local community to complete their certificate at the West Fresno campus. They can then transfer to Fresno State University to pursue a teaching career within the community.

The campus also provides the Future Health Care Professionals program, which assists high school students in west Fresno with priority registration for the Allied Health Program. This program aims to facilitate the process for students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.

Cassie Fang, a first-year student, expressed her preference for in-person classes. She initially considered online classes but found that she learns better in a physical classroom setting.

The West Fresno Center is currently in its first phase of development and will continue to expand as construction progresses. The Advanced Transportation building is set to open in January. Fresno City College plans to collaborate with district staff and the community to further enhance the campus by 2035.
