Fortnite Teases Return to Original Chapter 1 Map, Aimed at Bringing Back Lapsed Players

Fortnite players who have been yearning for the return of the original Chapter 1 map may soon have their wish granted. Epic Games, the developer of the popular battle royale game, has been teasing a return to the nostalgic map in hopes of enticing lapsed players to return.

The original Chapter 1 map, which was quickly produced as a response to the rising popularity of the battle royale genre, holds a special place in the hearts of long-time Fortnite players. Many believe that it is superior to all the other maps that Epic Games has created over the years.

In recent weeks, leakers and dataminers have been uncovering classic assets from Fortnite updates, hinting at a possible return to the original map. Just last week, Epic Games started formally teasing the upcoming season on Twitter. The teaser image features the iconic Battle Bus model and reads, “Sprint (or Mantle, your choice) back to Chapter 1… see you soon 11.3.2023,” accompanied by the hashtag FortniteOG.

The reference to sprinting and mantling in the teaser is significant, as these mechanics were not available in Fortnite when the original map was released. Over the years, Fortnite has undergone numerous changes and additions to its traversal mechanics, showcasing the capabilities of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.

This is not the first time that Epic Games has experimented with bringing back Chapter 1 items. In a previous iteration of the game, Epic Games reintroduced Tilted Towers, a popular point of interest from the 2018 revamp of the Chapter 1 map. Tilted Towers was known for its city-styled zone filled with tall buildings and challenging gameplay.

Reviving the original map is also part of Epic Games’ strategy to revive Fortnite’s player base, which has been experiencing stagnation. In the past, the inclusion of the Zero Build mode successfully enticed many players back by removing the technical building feature that characterized the game.

Furthermore, the return to the Chapter 1 map highlights the disposable nature of the live service model. Once maps and content from previous chapters are retired, players have no official way to revisit them. While Epic Games occasionally brings back certain skins and items, there is a vast amount of older content that remains inaccessible.

More details about the return to the Chapter 1 map, referred to as FortniteOG, will likely be revealed in the coming days. Fans eagerly await the opportunity to reconnect with the nostalgia and excitement of the game’s early days.
