A Huntsville Manufacturing Company Adds 300 New Jobs to Expand Broadband Access

Adtran, a Huntsville-based manufacturing company, has announced plans to add up to 300 new jobs in an effort to increase broadband access. The expansion is being made possible with funds from the federal infrastructure law passed two years ago. The total investment in the project is million.

Adtran will be expanding its telecommunications equipment manufacturing at Cummings Research Park and will be focused on the production of optical line termination (OLT) equipment and the manufacturing of optical network terminals (ONTs). The company aims to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment Program and its Made-in-America policies outlined in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The new jobs created by Adtran’s expansion will be high-quality and well-paying positions. The company is committed to strengthening the domestic supply chain and securing communications networks with American-made equipment.

Senior adviser to the President and White House Infrastructure Coordinator, Mitch Landrieu, as well as Alan Davidson, assistant secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator, recently toured Adtran’s manufacturing facility.

Landrieu emphasized the importance of high-speed internet access, stating that it is no longer a luxury but an essential tool for education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. He commended President Biden’s investment in high-speed internet and highlighted Adtran’s contribution to the manufacturing boom in the region.

Congressman Dale Strong, who represents North Alabama, including the district of Adtran, applauded the investment. He believes that the expansion will not only support the local economy but also ensure that more Americans have access to broadband equipment made in the United States. The Tennessee Valley, which includes Huntsville, has a strong history of developing advanced technologies that support the country’s industrial base.

The expansion by Adtran and the creation of new jobs will contribute to the goal of expanding broadband access and bridging the digital divide across the United States.
