University of Kashmir Celebrates 77th Independence Day

The University of Kashmir (KU) recently celebrated the 77th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and respect. The main and satellite campuses of the university hoisted the national flag to mark the occasion. This year, the theme for the celebration was ‘Nation First, Always First’, which is part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign commemorating 75 years of India’s independence.

The flag-hoisting ceremony at the main campus was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan. The national anthem was sung while the national flag was being hoisted. A ceremonial guard of honour was presented by a contingent of university police. Various dignitaries, including the Dean Academic Affairs, Dean College Development Council, Dean Research, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Dean Students Welfare, deans of schools, heads/directors/coordinators of departments/centres/institutes, and officers of the administration and faculty, participated in the ceremony.

After the flag-hoisting ceremony, the vice-chancellor led all the participants to the grand ceremony scheduled at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. The satellite campuses of the university in Anantnag, Baramulla, and Kupwara also celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic fervour. The flag-hoisting ceremonies at these campuses were led by the respective directors, Prof Bashir Ahmad Ganai and Prof Raies Ahmad Qadri, who witnessed overwhelming participation from officers, faculty, staff, and students.

The University of Kashmir had organized a week-long celebration to instill a sense of national pride and inspire future generations to protect India’s heritage. Under the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ (My Soil, My Country) campaign, various activities were conducted, including plantation drives, sculpture making, clay-modelling, pottery workshops, pledge ceremonies, and a speech competition. These activities aimed to connect with the land and honor the national heroes.

The university’s celebration of the Independence Day reflects its commitment to promoting patriotism and instilling a sense of national pride among its students, faculty, and staff. It highlights the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters, as well as the responsibility of every citizen to contribute to the progress and development of the nation.
