Samsung Galaxy Phones to Support Satellite Services in 2024

Samsung’s President of System LSI, Park Yong-in, has confirmed that Galaxy phones will support satellite services starting next year. This announcement strongly suggests that the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, expected to launch in early 2024, will have this feature.

During his speech at the 2023 Semiconductor Expo (SEDEX), Park Yong-in revealed that technical preparations have already been made to enable communication via satellites. This could be a reference to the Exynos Modem 5300, which supports two-way communication over satellite.

However, there is a question about how the Galaxy S24 Ultra, rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will support this satellite communication feature, along with the Exynos 2400-powered S24 and S24+.

In addition to satellite services, Park Yong-in also mentioned Samsung’s plans to enhance the graphics performance of smartphones by improving ray tracing. This technology adds realistic light reflections to games and was first introduced in the Galaxy S22 with the Exynos 2200.

Furthermore, Park Yong-in highlighted the importance of Generative AI, a feature that Qualcomm has recently unveiled with their Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Generative AI enables virtual personal assistants to provide concise and human-like responses, generate media content such as videos and photos, and more. This indicates that Samsung is likely considering implementing on-device generative AI in the Exynos 2400.

These announcements from Park Yong-in shed light on Samsung’s future plans for their Galaxy phones, offering potential improvements in satellite communication, graphics performance, and AI capabilities.
