Samsung has officially announced that the upcoming Galaxy S24 will feature satellite connectivity for emergency services. The CEO of Samsung’s System LSI division, Park Yong, confirmed the news, stating that the company will begin offering this service on their flagship phones starting early next year.

Samsung had previously revealed that they had developed a technology to enable two-way satellite connectivity for smartphones, and it is likely that this technology will be incorporated into the Galaxy S24 series. However, it is still unclear whether this feature will be available on all models within the series or if it will be limited to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The satellite connectivity for emergency services feature was first introduced in Apple’s iPhone 14 series in 2022 and is also available on the iPhone 15. This emergency SOS feature allows users to answer a few questions about their situation and share their current location with a relay center. Emergency specialists then contact the necessary emergency services on behalf of the user.

Since its launch, this feature has proven to be valuable in rescuing individuals from dangerous situations. In August, it played a critical role in assisting a severely injured driver involved in an accident. The driver’s iPhone activated the emergency SOS via Satellite, alerting first responders and notifying the driver’s emergency contacts.

With the introduction of satellite connectivity for emergency services in the Galaxy S24, Samsung aims to provide users with an enhanced safety feature that can potentially save lives in critical situations.
