OneWeb, a satellite communication service, is set to connect all parts of the country starting next month, according to Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal. Speaking at the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress 2023, Mittal highlighted that Airtel had launched 5G services last year and has already covered the entire country, including 5,000 towns, cities, and 20,000 villages.

Acknowledging Airtel’s efforts to connect rural and remote areas with the help of the Universal Services Obligation Fund, Mittal stated that satellite technology is now available to connect every part of the country. He emphasized, “OneWeb constellation is ready to serve the globe and is ready to serve the country. Anybody, anywhere in the country, in remote parts or in difficult areas, wherever they are located can be connected from next month.”

Following the merger with Eutelsat, OneWeb will now operate commercially as Eutelsat OneWeb, with its center of operations based in London. Bharti Enterprises, the largest shareholder of the merged entity, holds a 21.2% share.

As of now, OneWeb has successfully completed its constellation of over 618 low earth orbit satellites. With this network, they will be able to offer broadband internet services from space, connecting every corner of the world.

The launch of OneWeb’s satellite communication service will be a significant milestone in bridging the digital divide, especially for rural and remote areas. It will enhance connectivity and enable access to communication services for individuals and businesses in even the most challenging locations across the country.
