Martyn’s Law: LMS Security Reflects on Annual Thought Leadership Event

LMS Security, an independent security consultancy based in the UK, recently hosted its Annual Thought Leadership Event with a focus on Martyn’s Law. The event, held in London, brought together professionals from various backgrounds to discuss the significance of Protect Duty and provide practical advice for safeguarding publicly accessible locations.

At the heart of the event was the discussion around the importance of Martyn’s Law, also known as Protect Duty. This legislation was prompted by the tragic attack at the Manchester Arena in 2017, resulting in the loss of 22 lives, including Martyn Hett.

The event provided an opportunity for open and frank conversations about the proposed legislation and emphasized the need to get it right. Attendees heard from notable speakers such as Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn; Nick Aldworth of Risk to Resolution; and Chris Medhurst-Cocksworth, Head of Pool Re Solutions. Their insights and practical advice highlighted the importance of proportionality and pragmatism in implementing safety and security measures.

LMS Security’s Managing Director, Marcus Newton, commended the keynote speakers for their exceptional contributions and acknowledged the efforts of Figen Murray, Nick Aldworth, and Brendan Cox in driving legal reform. He also highlighted the importance of seeking guidance from trusted advisors to ensure that responsible building owners and managers understand and comply with the requirements of the legislation.

Helena Palmer, Support Services Director at LMS Security, expressed that while the Protect Duty may not eliminate terrorism, it will ensure that public venues and event organizers are doing everything possible to keep people safe.

Reflecting on the event, Matt Blake, Commercial Director at LMS Security, emphasized the importance of preparedness and understanding the legislation for building owners and managers. He encouraged them to seek expert advice to ensure that the necessary security measures are implemented.

In conclusion, LMS Security’s Annual Thought Leadership Event provided a platform for professionals to discuss and promote awareness of Martyn’s Law. The event highlighted the significance of Protect Duty and emphasized the importance of proportionality, pragmatism, and preparedness in ensuring public safety.
