Keysight Technologies Collaborates with MediaTek to Assess 5G Modem Technology for New Radio and IoT Systems

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (KEYS) has partnered with MediaTek to evaluate the capability of MediaTek’s 5G modem technology in supporting 5G New Radio (NR) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. To emulate real-world channel conditions, Keysight has utilized advanced 5G network technology along with state-of-the-art hardware and software. This approach allows for a comprehensive performance assessment of both terrestrial and non-terrestrial infrastructure, as well as 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) devices.

In many remote or sparsely populated areas, the lack of communication infrastructure makes the expansion of terrestrial networks a costly endeavor. Additionally, terrestrial networks are vulnerable to natural disasters. Non-terrestrial networks are essential for extending network connectivity beyond the limitations of terrestrial networks. Keysight’s validation efforts will accelerate the development of commercial satellite communications and support digitalization efforts in rural areas.

Keysight utilized the S8711A UXM 5G Test Application and S8820A PROPSIM FS16 Channel Emulation Toolset to conduct the testing. The S8711A UXM 5G Test Application is an interactive, real-time testing tool that covers the entire chipset and device development process. It enables the device under test to establish an NTN data call connection and evaluate mobile networks for 5G NR and IoT technologies.

To accurately simulate communication scenarios such as ground-to-satellite, satellite-to-ground, and ground-to-ground satellite links, Keysight constructed a comprehensive test environment that combines terrestrial and space simulations. The evaluation aligns with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project’s Release 17 standards, which are specifically designed for non-terrestrial networks.

Keysight is experiencing strong growth in the industry and is witnessing significant adoption of its electronic design and test solutions. The rapid adoption of electronic devices in IoT services, wireless devices, data centers, and 5G technologies is driving demand for electronics testing equipment.

Keysight’s robust 5G portfolio, including product design validation solutions, is helping telecom and semiconductor companies accelerate their 5G initiatives. The company’s 5G network emulation solutions facilitate end-to-end processes from development to deployment, speeding up the architecture of 5G devices. These solutions offer cost-efficient test techniques with high flexibility and control capabilities, reducing time-to-market. In addition to its strength in the 5G domain, Keysight’s efforts in other emerging growth markets like IoT and high-speed data centers are contributing to its success.
