Indian operator Reliance Jio Infocomm has announced the successful deployment of its 5G service across the country. The company has completed its minimum roll-out obligations in each of the 22 Licensed Service Areas (LSA), ahead of the December 2023 deadline set by the spectrum auction. Jio has deployed its 5G service in 6,258 cities across 36 states in India.

Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, Akash Ambani, stated that the deployment of 5G is one of the fastest of its kind globally and gives India a prominent position in the global 5G landscape. The operator holds 1,000 megahertz in the 26 GHz band, which offers faster speeds and less delay for emerging and innovative applications.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has been rapidly expanding its 5G network using Standalone (SA) architecture since October 2022. With the nationwide deployment of its 5G service, Reliance Jio has fulfilled its commitment to provide pan-India 5G coverage.

Reliance Jio had previously secured a mix of wireless spectrum for 5G across the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz, and 26 GHz bands. The operator is the only one in India with the 700 MHz low-band spectrum.

The company is expected to sign a contract worth around .7 billion with Nokia for the acquisition of 5G network equipment, in addition to its .1 billion contract with Ericsson.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has also created a dedicated network slice for its 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) solution called Jio AirFiber. This will allow the operator to provide a separate home broadband service without affecting its 5G mobile network capacity. Jio plans to launch the AirFiber device in the coming months and aims to reach 100 million connected premises in India.
