IXAfrica Signs Agreement for Second Data Centre Campus in Nairobi

IXAfrica Data Centre, a developer and operator of hyperscale-ready data centres in East Africa, has announced a partnership with Tilisi Developments, a premier real estate developer, to acquire 11 acres of land in Nairobi, Kenya. The land will be used for the construction of IXAfrica’s second data centre campus.

This collaboration is considered a significant milestone for both companies and is expected to advance data centre infrastructure in East Africa. The exact size of the campus is currently being determined, but initial estimates suggest a facility with a capacity of over 30MW.

Chairman of IXAfrica, Guy Willner, highlights several reasons for partnering with Tilisi. These include Tilisi’s industrial parks, high-quality development, reliable power and water supply, fresh air, and advantageous altitude for free cooling. The proximity between the two campuses, with latency levels below 5ms, also meets the requirements for hyperscale deployments.

The new data centre campus aims to meet the growing demand for cloud computing services, digital transformation, and edge computing applications in East Africa. By offering state-of-the-art infrastructure, green power availability, advanced security measures, and efficient cooling solutions, IXAfrica aims to play a crucial role in enhancing East Africa’s technology landscape.

IXAfrica’s existing Nairobi Campus One currently has a design capacity of 22.5MW. It is considered the largest data centre project in the Greater East African region, serving a population of approximately 300 million people.
