Fresno City College has unveiled its new campus in West Fresno as the fall semester begins. The West Fresno Center is part of a larger initiative to provide resources to underserved communities. The campus’s location near residents in West Fresno aims to make higher education easily accessible.
The opening of the campus has been met with positive feedback and support from staff members. Gurminder Sangha, the campus’s dean of educational services and pathway effectiveness, expressed satisfaction with the level of support provided to students.
The West Fresno Center offers a range of courses in teaching, social justice, and public health, with a focus on educating future community leaders. One notable program is the elementary teacher education program, which allows students to complete their certification on campus before transferring to Fresno State. This program is aimed at enabling local community members to pursue careers in education and eventually teach within their own community.
Additionally, the Future Health Care Professionals program assists high school students in west Fresno by providing priority registration for the Allied Health Program. The program aims to facilitate the path to a career in healthcare for these students.
The campus is currently in its initial phase of development, with plans for further expansion in the future. Construction for the Advanced Transportation building is expected to be completed by January.
Looking ahead, Fresno City College plans to collaborate with district staff and the community to evaluate and improve the campus by 2035. The goal is to constantly enhance the resources and educational opportunities available to students.
