Elon Musk’s Starlink System Not Used in Gaza Strip

American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced today that there have been no attempts to connect to his satellite internet system, Starlink, from the Gaza Strip. Musk further stated that if any attempts are made, his company SpaceX will take extraordinary measures to ensure that it is only used for humanitarian purposes.

Yesterday, Musk expressed his support for the use of Starlink by internationally recognized humanitarian groups in Gaza, as the region currently lacks internet and telephone connections.

However, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi has threatened to sever all ties with Starlink and oppose its usage, fearing that it may be used by Hamas for terrorist activities.

Musk responded to the concerns, stating, “We are not that naive. According to my post, no Starlink terminal has attempted to connect from Gaza. If this happens, we will take extraordinary measures to confirm that it is only used for purely humanitarian reasons.” He also mentioned that SpaceX would conduct a safety check with both US and Israeli authorities before activating any terminals.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority Communications Minister Ishak Sadr revealed that they are currently negotiating with Starlink to restore communications in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, they are in talks with Egypt to facilitate the entry of Starlink equipment into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.

It remains to be seen how these negotiations will progress and whether Starlink will be utilized to improve communication services in the Gaza Strip.
