Data Centre Industry in India Sees Key Appointments

BAM Digital Realty, the joint venture between Brookfield and Digital Realty, has appointed CB Velayuthan as the Chief Executive of its India data centre platform. With his extensive experience at Equinix and Nokia, Velayuthan brings valuable expertise to the venture, which added India’s Reliance Group to its operations earlier this year. The move reflects the growing importance of data centres in India’s digital landscape.

Bain Capital has also made a significant hire in the real estate sector, bringing on board former Goldman Sachs managing director Man Kinoshita to lead its Japan operations. This move comes as US private equity firms increasingly look to the Japanese market for investment opportunities due to favourable conditions.

AirTrunk, a major data centre operator in the Asia-Pacific region, has named Mark Barnaba as its independent chairman. With the company considering a .3 billion initial public offering, Barnaba’s extensive experience in investment banking and his previous roles as chairman of Macquarie Group Western Australia and the Reserve Bank of Australia make him a valuable addition.

Mirae Asset Management has promoted Swarup Mohanty, the CEO of its Indian business, to the position of vice chairman. This move reflects the company’s strategic focus on expanding its operations in India, the third-largest economy in Asia.

Kerry Properties, a Hong Kong-based developer, has appointed Dr Li Rui as an independent, non-executive director. With his background as the former group finance director of Ping An Insurance Group and his current position as an adjunct professor at the University of Hong Kong, Dr Li brings valuable expertise to the company.

In Tokyo, Alyssa Partners Japan has welcomed Kenneth Fridley as a senior advisor. With his extensive experience in Japan’s real estate market and his background in investment advisory, Fridley will be instrumental in implementing the company’s business development initiatives.

Hotel 101 Global has appointed Catherine Chan as its chief development officer in Singapore. Chan’s previous experience at Accor One Living has prepared her well for leading mixed-use initiatives in the hotel investment and management company.

Seraya Partners has welcomed Jenny Wong as a Vice President in its Singapore office, bringing her experience from Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and KKR to the green infrastructure investment firm.

Emily Relf has been appointed as the Head of Living Sectors for Asia Pacific at Knight Frank. Based in Singapore, Relf will be responsible for expanding the property consultancy’s living sectors capabilities in the region and advising outbound capital to the US, UK, and EU.

These recent appointments highlight the dynamic nature of the Asia real estate industry, with professionals taking on new roles, getting promoted, and contributing to the growth of the sector.
