Youngstown Man Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Theft and Fraud Charges

A Youngstown man, Matthew E. Withers, has been sentenced to two years in prison for multiple counts of telecommunications fraud, theft, and receiving stolen property. Withers pleaded guilty to these charges and received immediate sentencing in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

In one case, Withers was sentenced to 12 months for theft from a person in a protected class, as well as nine months for three counts of telecommunications fraud. These terms will be served consecutively. In another case, he received 12 months for telecommunications fraud and nine months each for theft and receiving stolen property. The terms in this case will be served concurrently.

Withers had stolen ,811.90 from Rebecca Detchon on January 26, 2022. The telecommunications fraud violations occurred on January 26, 2022, March 9, 2022, and April 23, 2022. In the other case, he was found in possession of a stolen credit card belonging to Detchon on October 19, 2022 and had stolen ,892 worth of merchandise and services between October 14, 2022, and October 18, 2022.

As part of his punishment, Withers has been ordered to pay restitution to Detchon in the amounts of ,811.90 and ,892.89.

In other cases heard in the Common Pleas Court, Eric McQueen was sentenced to 12 months in prison for illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, and possession of cocaine. George Faulkner was sentenced to 10 months for receiving stolen property and fraudulent actions concerning a vehicle identification number (VIN). Mary Elizabeth Kiehl received a nine-month sentence for aggravated possession of drugs. Tanika Smith was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center for domestic violence, harassment, endangering children, and resisting arrest. David Kane was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail for violating the terms of his probation for aggravated possession of drugs.
