Vmware Explores Investment Opportunities in India

Cloud and virtualisation major Vmware plans to continue exploring investment opportunities in India as it looks to expand its presence in the region. According to Raghu Raghuram, CEO of VMware, the company has invested significantly in India in recent years, with around 10,000 engineers in the country working on global products. Raghuram stated that India is one of their fastest-growing areas and they intend to further grow their presence in the country.

In addition to research and development and product development, VMware also has a growing business serving customers in India, including government and large enterprise segments. The company is particularly active in verticals such as governments, banks, and telecommunications. It is currently collaborating with Indian telecom operators to deploy new 5G services and modernize their networks.

The government sector is a significant focus for VMware in India, with successful projects in digital public infrastructure and supporting Indian state agencies. Sumit Dhawan, President at VMware, highlighted the expanding business opportunities in the public sector globally, driven by the digitization of services such as education, healthcare, and defense.

Regarding the acquisition of VMware by U.S. chipmaker Broadcom, Raghuram expressed confidence in obtaining regulatory approvals from China and Japan. Broadcom’s CEO, Hock Tan, announced plans to invest an additional billion annually into VMware, with a focus on research and development and go-to-market strategies.
