Ten-Month Aftermath of Fatal Crash in Melbourne: Man Faces Charges of DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide

Ten months ago, a horrific incident occurred at Claude Edge Front Street Park in Melbourne, resulting in the tragic death of two young women. Now, a Satellite Beach man named Robert Lueck has been arrested and is facing charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

Lueck, 30, was taken into custody in Satellite Beach and is currently being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex, as confirmed by Melbourne police in a press release on Friday morning.

The victims of the crash were Rikki Grace, 25, and Megan Grace, 26, both residents of Palm Bay and graduates of Bayside High School. They were not related. The incident occurred on October 18, 2022, while the two friends were out for an evening walk.

According to the press release, Lueck had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit at the time of the double-fatal crash, and cannabis was also found in his system. It was further revealed that Lueck had been driving recklessly with a suspended driver’s license, had no insurance on the vehicle involved in the crash, and had failed to maintain financial responsibility.

Lueck now faces multiple charges, including two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide, driving with a suspended license resulting in death, DUI resulting in property damage or personal injury, DUI, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

In May, a memorial bench ceremony was held at Front Street Park to honor Rikki Grace and Megan Grace. Two oak trees at the crash site serve as a tribute to the victims, adorned with flower bouquets, photographs, and other tributes.

Rikki Grace was a third-grade teacher at Imagine Schools in West Melbourne and was actively involved with various organizations, including H.A.L.O. No-Kill Rescue Shelter and Girls on the Run. Megan Grace worked at the Hale Hand Center, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Treasure Coast, and Vero Orthopaedics.

Melbourne Police Sgt. Ben Slover emphasized the complexity of investigations like these and the importance of gathering all the necessary evidence before making an arrest. He highlighted the significance of taking the time to ensure a strong case for prosecution.

The court appearance for Robert Lueck was scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
