Tata Play Launches GSAT-24 Satellite to Enhance DTH Services

Tata Play, in collaboration with NSIL (NewSpace India Limited), successfully launched the GSAT-24 satellite in June 2022, aligning with the Government’s Make in India initiative. This satellite will significantly increase bandwidth, enabling Tata Play to offer users a better picture and sound quality, as well as provide 50% more channels. As a result, Tata Play becomes the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in Chhatarpur, New Delhi, with Shri. Apurva Chandra, Secretary Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, expressing his happiness and commending the achievement. Speaking at the event, Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman ISRO, stated that GSAT-24 is a fully operational communication satellite with maximum capacity, revolutionizing India’s telecommunications industry and showcasing the nation’s aerospace prowess.

Chairman and Managing Director of NSIL, Shri. Radhakrishnan Durairaj, also lauded the successful mission, highlighting GSAT-24’s contribution to advancing satellite television in India and its support for domestic broadcasting services. Tata Play’s MD & CEO, Harit Nagpal, emphasized that this collaboration with NSIL will enhance the viewing experience for DTH subscribers, offering improved video and audio quality, more channels, and services. He further emphasized Tata Play’s commitment to promoting Make in India, as all their services have been delivered using indigenously produced satellites from DOS.

GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite exclusively designed to meet the DTH application needs of Tata Play. NSIL, established in 2019 as a CPSE under the Department of Space, serves as the commercial arm of DOS. All the satellite capacity aboard GSAT-24 is leased to Tata Play, reaffirming the company’s dedication to the Make in India initiative.
