North Korea Plans Possible Spy Satellite Launch

According to a South Korean lawmaker, North Korea may attempt another spy satellite launch in late August or early September. Despite a failed military satellite launch in May, North Korea remains determined to put another satellite into orbit.

Yoo Sang-bum, a member of the South Korean parliament, stated that if North Korea successfully addressed the previous launch’s issues, there is a possibility that they will launch the satellite in time to commemorate the country’s founding anniversary on September 9. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has expressed a desire to conduct a launch in the second half of this year.

In addition to a potential satellite launch, North Korea is reportedly preparing for other military actions, including the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. These actions are intended as a form of protest against the upcoming three-way summit between the United States, South Korea, and Japan, as well as the joint U.S.-South Korea drills.

U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a summit at Camp David on Friday with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The meeting is expected to discuss various regional and global issues, including North Korea’s nuclear program and regional security.

As of now, it remains to be seen whether North Korea will successfully carry out their planned satellite launch or other military actions. The international community will closely monitor the situation and its implications for regional stability.
